The JDS Story

The JDS story is that of a young boy who loved to tinker with things. Legos were my toy of choice, along with whatever I could get my hands on to take apart and reassemble. At age 10 I discovered musical instruments, and by age 11 I started my drum/percussion journey. Fast forward to 2015 when I took on my first drum restoration project; a 1920's Leedy concert snare drum my grandmother played in grade school (see picture). At this time I was bitten by the drum restoration bug. This led me on a path to researching how to make my own drums. In 2020, with the help of two fellow drummers, I made my first snare drum. I continued my research and learned the art of making stave snare drums. At this point I was all in. I gathered/made the necessary equipment to start making my own stave shell drums and haven't looked back! The rest of my story is unfolding day by day...
